For those of you who weren't paying attention, last night (Dec. 21st, 2010) was the winter solstice; the shortest day/longest night of the year. And if that isn't enough to catch your attention, there was a total lunar eclipse as well. Not only was this the only total lunar eclipse of 2010, but the last time a total lunar eclipse occurred on the winter solstice was in the mid 1600's. It's been nearly 400 years since this last happened!
I stayed up to watch it with my siblings (it was about 2 a.m.), explained why aliens would look nothing like humans as well as the concept of the multyverse, and watched the earth's shadow creep across the moon.
This was my first lunar eclipse that I've ever seen and it was spectacular; the sky was clear, you could make out all the big constellations, and the moon was the most brilliant and beautiful crimson/gold/orange/bronze I have ever seen.
If you didn't stay up to watch it, you missed one hell of a show going on in our little corner of the galaxy.

These are various pieces of art that I have done over the past few years based on Nintendo's Metroid series.
Metroid has to be my favorite series of games and there's just so much about it that inspires me to draw.
That's probably at least partly due to Android Jones's artwork for the Metroid Prime games, which is nothing short of incredible. I would seriously recommend checking out his work right now if you like art at all.
This is Jack Manly: professional lumberjack, loving boyfriend, unwilling time traveler, and all man.
Unwillingly sent back in time by an evil rival who has kidnapped his beautiful and incredibly intelligent girlfriend, Jack Manly fights is why through history with his trusty pet badger to save the woman he loves!
This is an original character I came up with for a game some friends and I where going to make.
unfortunately the project was abandoned, but Jack Manly is to much man for such a silly thing as cancellation stop him from surviving!

This here is the end result of my last Basic Design project.
The assignment was to make an Icon based on some words from a list.
I chose "See the Future".
after coming up with some concepts (not all shown here) We decided on some and started colouring them.
I couldn't decide on just one, so I did 3 different icons and several colour schemes.

Then we made them into buttons, which I have to say I am very happy with!
Launch 20/12/2010
After much procrastination, I am proud to announce the launch of The Gentleman Octopus Illustrations official blog page!
On this haloed web-page, you shall be able to bear witness to my work, personal, professional, and education related. As an added bonus to being able to see some decent art, I will also post personal insights, ideas, and whatever insane idea happens to pop into my head when someone makes the mistake of letting me near a working computer.
Oh, and there's a Facebook page and email.
probably should mention that.
If you should decide for some reason that you want to contact me in regards to my art or this blog, email me at gentlemanoctopus@gmail.com
And if you have one of those fancy 'facebook' pages, why not go ahead and become a fan?
Just go look up 'The Gentleman Octopus Illustrations", become a fan, and hit that like button.
Because if you don't, you will make the worlds most adorable kitten cry.
You're not a monster are you?
Don't make that kitten cry.
